On May 17, the period of registration for the Pablo Casals International Award for Young Cellists 2024 was closed, a biannual call that aims to support performers in their education so that they can perfect their technique and develop their art.
In its 43rd edition, the Award has received the exceptional participation of 65 talented young cellists from all over the world, from 18 different nationalities and born between 2003 and 2010.
From July 3, the decision of the jury of experts, formed by cellists Peter Thiemann, Erica Wise and Victor Julien-Laferrière, and Bernard Meillat, musical advisor of the Pablo Casals Foundation, who will select up to six finalists from the videos submitted in the call for applications will be communicated.
The Pau Casals Municipal School of Music in El Vendrell will host the final auditions to be held on November 16, and the six finalists will perform in front of a jury of great prestige, formed by cellists Ophélie Gaillard, Danjulo Ishizaka, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and Arnau Tomàs.
The Award, an initiative of the Pablo Casals Foundation, aims to establish an open and continuous relationship with young cellists, based on the musical and human ideals of Pablo Casals. The three prizes offered to the winners are 18,000 euros, 2,000 euros and 6,000 euros. The Pablo Casals Foundation, in addition to the financial endowment, will provide artistic advice to the winners, who will join the important network of ambassadors of Casals’ musical and human legacy.
