02/10/2009

The exhibition “Pau Casals and the Exile” at the Moja Palace in Barcelona At 8 o’clock in the evening on the coming 6th October, the travelling exhibition “Pau Casals and the Exile” will open at the exhibition hall of Barcelona’s Palau (Palace) Moja.

The opening ceremony at the Palau Moja will be presented by the Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu; the Catalan Minister of Culture and Communication Media, Joan Manuel Tresserras, and representatives of the Democratic Memorial, the Office for the Promotion of Peace and the Pau Casals Foundation.

The young cellist Pau Codina Masferrer will then offer a concert with works by Bach, Enric Casals and Gaspar Cassadó. Pau Codina has performed throughout Catalonia as well as in England and Germany, in such important auditoriums as the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican Hall, the Wigmore Hall, the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Liceu and the Pau Casals Auditorium of El Vendrell. At present he is continuing his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Louise Hopkins thanks to grants from the Pau Casals Foundation and the Catalan Government.

The exhibition was inaugurated at the Pau Casals Museum of Sant Salvador (El Vendrell) in October 2007 and since then it has visited diverse places: the National Archive of Catalonia in Sant Cugat del Vallès, the Médiathèque of Prades and the Tinglado 1 building of the Port of Tarragona’s Moll de Costa cultural space. An abridged version of the show has been travelling around Spain in 2009 (to the Blanquerna Cultural Centre of Madrid and to Granada) and to Puerto Rico, when it was held at the University of Puerto Rico’s campuses at Río Piedras and Mayagüez.

The exhibition may be visited from 3 October to 29 November 2009 at the Palau Moja, Carrer Portaferrissa, 1-3, Ground Floor (at the corner of the Rambla). 08002 Barcelona
