Grants for further cello studies

09/06/2008

On the past Saturday, 7th June, the tests were held for the selection of the candidates to the PAU CASALS GRANTS for the extension of cello studies, awarded annually by the Pau Casals Foundation.

The jury, formed by the musicians Josep M. Escribano Casaldàliga, Michel Poulet and Lluís Claret i Serra, the latter as president, has resolved to propose to the Pau Casals Foundation the award of grants to: Pau Codina Masferrer, for the continuation of his Bachelor of Music studies in classical cello (upper level) at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama; Oscar Alabau Fernández, for the continuation of his Bachelor of Music studies in classical cello (upper level) likewise at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama; Bruno Hurtado Gonsálvez, for the continuation of his upper-level studies at the Musikhochschule Winterthur Zürich under professor Roel Dieltiens, and Evaristo Urraca Pérez de Diego, for the first phases of the repair of a Giovita Rodiani cello from Brescia dating from the beginning of the 18th century while continuing his studies at the Higher School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC) under professor Damián Martínez Marco.

All told, grants for a sum of 20,000 euros have been awarded. This year’s grants programme has been favoured by the patronage of the Provincial Council of Tarragona and, as usual, the Pau Casals Auditorium of El Vendrell has provided its cooperation for the holding of the tests.
